Overview

The 2008 Kia Spectra5 gets only minor changes, as it was restyled for the 2007 model year. Equipped with a sport-tuned suspension, the Spectra5 hatchback is targeted at younger buyers looking for cool styling and a sporty performance.

Power and Performance

The Spectra5 is fitted with variable valve timing and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that creates 138 hp (132 hp in SULEV). A 5-speed manual transmission is standard, and an automatic is optional. The Spectra5 hatchback gets sport-tuned suspension with 16-inch wheels. Fuel efficiency with the 5-speed manual is 23/30 mpg (city/highway) and it is 24/32 mpg (city/highway) with the 4-speed automatic.

Body and Styling

The Spectra5 has stylish looks, aerodynamic spoilers, side trims, front fog lights, metal pedals, a roof-mounted antenna, and 16" alloy wheels. Though similar in appearance to the Spectra sedan, the Spectra5 has a more athletic profile, a rear lift hatch, and a 6-inch longer wheelbase. The Spectra sedan can seat five people, and has a folding backseat that can increase trunk capacity to18.3 cubic feet. A leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearshift knob plus metal pedals are standard.

Safety Features

The Spectra5 has earned Five Star Safety rating in frontal driver and passenger crash tests, from the National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) and comes with a comprehensive 10 year/100,000 mile warranty program. Safety features include a tire-pressure monitoring system (TPMS), airbag and seat-belt latch sensors, dual front advanced airbags, dual front seat-mounted side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, side impact door beams, rear child-safety door locks, crumple zones, anchors for children (latch), and an energy-absorbing steering column.
